DeleteI wish we could do that in my town. Arm yourself and protect those you love against violent crimes.
ReplyDeleteIt makes a difference, right? Not that you'll use force, but the implication that you have the ability is all that's needed to dissuade most problems.

DeleteMy opinion on guns: guns are great. Gun safety classes that start by the age of five and six? EVEN BETTER! I think we wouldn't have the trouble we have with guns if we all had the education around guns that I had as a kid.

DeleteYikes! How funny! Well, I don't own a firearm. I thought it silly if in the middle of the night I had to run over there to get the gun, and then run over to another place and grab the ammo. Better I had a Louisville Slugger behind the bed! ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't have an issue if Americans have them. I just wish we could do a better job of keeping them out of the hands of evildoers. I believe it was the latest James Bond film where the gun would only fire in Bond's hands. Perhaps one day we'll all have that technology and we'll have much less to report during the local news...

Yeah, my hubby opted for the baseball bat too, but I think people should be free to arm themselves if they want. That's part of what this country was founded on, and a way to keep us from every falling into dictatorship. (Ooh, listen to me and my conspiracy theories.)

DeleteI love the idea of criminals/terrorists getting killed whether by police or citizens doesn't bother me. I just have two concerns.
ReplyDelete1) Knowing the huge number of ignorant hotheads in the US -- just read the comments on Yahoo articles, you'll see an incredible number of stupid, intolerant trolls with mean tempers who'd shoot anyone that disagrees with them if they could. I see a lot of neighbor dispute or domestic fights being settled with guns.
2) Also, you can't give guns to people with mental illnesses. Everyone in Sandy Hook would still be alive if the mom hadn't decided it would teach her mentally ill child "responsibility" to learn to load and fire guns, which she conveniently kept in the house. Obviously, mentally ill people are not capable of handling the responsibility.
Well, the stupid hopefully gets balanced out by the sane, but the point is, it's a right. No one should tell me I can't defend my own property or family--I cheer the New Yorkers who shoot thieves that break into their houses. (Yes, I lived in NYC once--there's some perspective for you.)

DeleteI'm huge on the value of life too, however, I'm also a huge fan of self protection. Some people invest in a dog. Some people get security systems. Some people buy a gun. We live in a land of choice, eh?
I'd expect that sign to be riddled with bullet holes. Don't own one, but I've sampled a few at ranges. Definitely a hot topic these days.

DeleteEven our police don't carry guns. We don't have any guns-well apart from probably Military.

And that's why they have all the paperwork/background check stuff in place before you can own a firearm.
