Last week, Joylene Nowell Butler shared MATOWAK: WOMAN WHO CRIES along with two truths and one lie. Anyone who guessed the lie correctly was entered to an eBook.

The game:

1.  Joylene trained a wild tomcat by attaching a hair-brush to the end of a yard stick so she could brush his coat at a distance of three feet without having her legs torn to shreds.
2. Robert Goulet, singer, actor, best known for The Naked Gun 2 & 1/2, and for being portrayed by Will Ferrell in Saturday Night Live is Joylene’s cousin.
3. Joylene once won 10 bags of jujubes by eating 15 jujubes in one-minute while being blindfolded and having to pick up the candy one at a time with a toothpick.

The lie: #3.

From Joylene: I do love jujubes, but because I live such a boring life, I had to look up a good lie. I found this one in the Guinness Book of Records.

Way to guess everyone! And the winner is:

...DRUM ROLL...

Hilary Melton-Butcher!

Congrats, Hilary!

And now, how about a wonderful book giveaway? (This one is one of the INSTANT prizes you can win in my Wheel of Death giveaway game.)

In this modern day retelling of Rapunzel, Anya has her books, her photography, and her daydreams. She doesn’t think she needs anything else.

She lives in a house on the edge of town with her adopted mother, who goes to extreme measures to keep her daughter safe. Anya doesn’t even go to school, but instead has a private tutor. Anya tries not to acknowledge her loneliness; she puts her efforts into pleasing her mom, and gives her heart to her stories, secretly wishing for a story of her own.

Then one day at the library, the only place she's allowed to go, she takes a picture of a beautiful boy.

Before long she's lying to her mom, and sneaking out late at night to meet Zander. But Zander wants more than a secret romance. If Anya wants to be with the boy of her dreams, she will have to risk her relationship with the only other person she's ever cared about.

Rachel grew up in a tiny town in Minnesota. She still lives there, with her husband and their four kids. She coaches high school speech and theater, rides Arabian horses, reads as much as she can, and writes stories.

You might find Rachel, kicking back with her kids and eating Colby Jack in crackers. Meet her on her FACEBOOK PAGE.

Rachel gave me two truths and one lie to test your "lie detector" skills. Those who figure out either lie will go into my magic hat for the chance to win an eBook (open internationally):

You have until Tuesday, November 29 at 2 p.m. EDT to guess. Be sure to come back for the answer (and some FUN trivia) on November 16, 8 a.m. EDT.
TRUTH OR LIE

1. I caught a Snorlax in my living room.
2. I almost died when I was four.
3. I saw Patrick Swayze at a horse show.

So sleuths, which is the lie? Have you met Rachel? Love fairy tale retellings? What's got you down lately? And more importantly, how are you going to fight it? Now guess the lie and get out of here--on to the next tour stop!

  1. Have you slapped cheese on your cat today?
    That's really Joylene's cousin? Impressive.
I do know Rachel! I'll say number two is the lie.

    1. I don't have a cat, but if I did, my 10 year old would torture it relentlessly. (Incidentally, he's the reason we don't have a cat, because he's allergic.)

  2. Hope you're enjoying your tour! You're certainly getting around.

Training a wild cat doesn't sound boring, Joylene!

I'll say #1 is the lie just because I don't know what a Snorlax is. I'm picturing some sort of cute alien... I sympathise with the almost dying. Asthma nearly finished me off when I was two!

    1. LOL. Not exhausted. Actually, this has been the most laid back tour thus far. It's good. Thank you for following along.

  4. The cats have me laughing. Looks like the tour is going well! :)

    Congrats to Hilary!

Don't Fall sounds interesting and I like the cover! I think the lie is #2.

  6. LOL that poor kitty. Although I wouldn't mind having cheese thrown at me, any kind would do.
Joylene's life doesn't sound boring at all! I'm so impressed with the tomcat taming.
And congrats to Rachel! I'm going with #1 as the lie.

Hope the tour continues to be a great success, Crystal!

  7. Hi Crystal, if you could point me in the direction of chocolate flavoured cheese, I just might join you in your obsession.

I caught a Snorlax in my living room. I have no idea what a Snorlax is but I WANT it to be true.
I almost died when I was four. I hope this is the LIE.
I saw Patrick Swayze at a horse show. TRUE.

PS Chocolate is the best food on the planet! :-)

  9. Cheese eating the mouse! That's a good one! ^_^

Hmm, number 1 for the lie?
I LOVE retellings! I'm writing one right now! I have a whole arsenal of them between my bookshelf and my head. Fairy tales are my second favorite thing in the world. ^_^

    1. It was bound to happen eventually--the mouse-eating cheese.

I hear you about fairy tales. I've got a ton of them too, and if they ever get written it will be a miracle.

    2. Awesome, Krystal! I love fairy tales. :)

  10. Yay for Rachel! I love her cover. I'll go with number one as the lie.

  13. #1 is the lie.
I've had a few sick symptoms thrown at me, and I let myself just read for a bit, and sleep more, and my oldest daughter cooked dinners for two nights in a row. Basically, sometimes, it's just good to rest so I can get back up fighting later.

    1. I agree 100%. I've had to rely more and more on my family for things since the baby and then the car accident. I'm just now coming to that point where I'm okay with it.

Our current cats don't eat cheese. All the more for me.

  22. Hope your book tour is still going well! And as for the lie, hmm....I'm going to guess that she didn't really catch a Snorlax in her living room. That is, unless she had to cheese to wake it up maybe?

Going to have to snag a copy of Don't Fall for myself. Sounds like a really good read.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The truths all sound so valid, but catching a Pokemon in your own living room...hmmm... but he isn't a rare one so maybe it's possible. So I will say #2 is the lie.

  24. I did have a little sharp cheddar today.

  29. I just read that the secret to a long life lies in eating cheese. That could be a lie in itself, but hey, it's one I'm willing to believe.

Best wishes on the book tour!

  33. Hi Crystal - thanks for letting me know about my amazing win - lucky me: sorry had an 'away' day here yesterday with three things going on - so the computer was off.

Wonderful - love cats ... just could do with being one at the moment - lying in the sunshine zizzing my day away for now would be good ... then I could wake up and patter over to demand cheese - sounds a great idea. Thanks so much .. love cheese too .. cheers Hilary

    1. Hey, we all need an away day every now and again. I took one too...unintentionally...stuck in bed...

  35. Hmmm, I'll guess #3 is the lie.

What's got me down?(Have you not been here during this awful election...?) As for what's gonna bring me back up again, it's going to take a liberal amount of time with some of my giggly grandchildren. That should do the trick. :)

  38. LOL! That gif with the Kitty + Cheese drop is hilarious. I'd have to say that maybe #1 is the lie? So hard to pic. It may even be the more serious of the three options.

Also, I'm super late to the party here, but congrats on the your recent release!! It's gorgeous! <3

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well, number three sounds the most plausible so I'll say that's the lie. And stop throwing cheese at that poor cat.

That video of the cat is just too funny. It had no idea what to do. Poor thing. My dogs would've been like, "More please!"

  41. Don't Fall sounds intriguing. You're right--what we all need is a little more cheese. Can we pair it with some white wine?!

  42. Life has been coming at a lot of people hard lately, sometimes overly so. >_< And I like the idea of fairy tale retellings, though I've only read one or two, mostly in short stories. I have one myself in a file somewhere, though it's less a retelling and more of an out-there reimagining. Eh heh heh.

And how exciting to see Rachel here! Really love her writing, but shamefully haven't read Don't Fall yet. Even though I'm always terrible at games like these, I'm going to guess #2 is the lie!
