5 Snacks for Reading

Well technically since you're not burning that many calories, I suggest saving the snacking for exercise, but here are my top five would-eat-if-I-didn't-have-to-get-up-and-stop-reading foods.

5. Carrot sticks. There's something about carrot sticks that goes so well with paper. Erm, but don't eat the paper. "What?!" you say? Why be so healthy? Well I tried pretzels, but I had to get up every couple minutes to get another cup of water, then to use the restroom, then to get more pretzels. Very distracting.
4. Fine, we'll jump off the health wagon. DOUGHNUTS. Especially doughnut holes. Yummy! (Keep wet wipes on hand--unless you're on an eBook and have mastered the art of elbow swiping.)

3. Dried apples. So delicious and zany without pushing you over the sugar threshold.

2. Licorice. 'Nuf said.

1. And I bet you'll never guess what I'm going to say for the top snack?
Now gather up your snacks and pick up something truly worthy of reading...like the Maiden of Time books.

What are your favorite reading foods? Do you crave it when you read about food?

  1. I totally agree. Whenever I snack on pretzels, I need water and it can be quite distracting! Never tried the donut holes but I do love having cheese and Stacy's pita chips. And muffins! I bake a lot during the winter and you can always find me eating muffins while typing. If I'm feeling healthy, I will throw some veggies and fruits in my juicer and sip on that instead of coffee=)

  2. For junk food, my top snack is Hot Tamales. Otherwise it's pretzels or veggies.

  3. Licorice is dangerous, especially Red Vines and Good 'n' Plenty.

  4. I like to snack on chocolate raisins or pretzels while I read. But sometimes I don't snack. I story can really suck you in and make you forget to eat.

  5. Hmm, I like your carrots & cheese! I go with no snacks 'cause I don't know how to stop, I'm so bad! However coffee, water, wine is all good o_0 lol

  6. I like corn chips or kettle cooked salt and vinegar chips. Give me crunchy and salty, and I'll devour the bag without looking up from my book. :)

  7. My best friend always ate carrots when she read. She ate them all them time, so much she ended up looking sallow.

"40 cents on SOULLESS" man, that inflation!

  8. I like something crunchy to eat while reading, usually carrot sticks or saltine crackers.

  9. I love carrots too, especially with a dollop of hummus. Or, sometimes, dark chocolate.

  10. When I'm reading books by Janet Evanovich I always crave donuts because Stephanie eats them religiously, but I don't always have them on hand. While I'm reading I like to snack on carrot sticks, apple slices, and cheese. That's the healthy part. If I'm feeling sinister I go for cheesy and/or salty chips. I'm with Loni on the salt & vinegar chips. :)

  11. I don't snack while I'm reading. I eat a meal, sometimes in my neighborhood restaurant, where they supply me with diet cokes as long as I want to read. I'm not really a snacker. Or a cracker.

    Love,
    Janie

  12. Now I'm craving doughnuts!!! I love Sun Chips...that's my semi-healthy indulgence. But my top choice would be miniature Reese's Cups. Followed by about a half an hour on the treadmill! I read while ON the treadmill, though, so eating isn't really an option.

  13. I only like carrot sticks if there's ranch dip involved! :) I usually like chips & dip for reading snacking. And I second the wipes! :)

  14. BBQ flavored potato chips. Except they have the same downside as pretzel with the get thirsty and potty breaks things. Frozen grapes are excellent in summer.

It's great seeing your books all around the blog world lately.

  15. Hi Crystal .. I try and keep off all food - not easy ... because I can easily get stuck in .. but I do love cheese ... and often have a tiny (large) piece of cheddar often ... but any cheese like you ...

    Cheers Hilary

  16. I like pistachios, but not when I'm reading books. They make my fingers too salty!

  17. Now I'm suddenly hungry :) My favorite reading snacks are olives and hot peppers.

  18. I don't eat when I read. Strangely enough, I hate snack foods. I am a pescetarian, and I stay away from desserts. I can do carrots anytime.

  20. I knew cheese had to be on your list Crystal and I love carrot sticks too... they are a great snack too :)

As far as donuts are concerned... yummy... however, none of them in my near future, I am back on track :) Good luck with the book, it really does have a great cover ;)

  22. mmm Licorice, Donut holes and Cheese. I think i need to snack more when I read as I think I've been cheating myself. Matt @ JC's Book Haven.

  23. Pretzels work well too. They don't make the fingers greasy and can be used to stab cubes of cheese.

  24. I'm working on the pinky swipe.

I don't eat while reading. Well, that's not true. I may eat lunch while reading if I'm working and only have a little time. But most of my reading is in bed before I go to sleep, and I don't eat after a certain time of night.

  25. I'm all for doughnuts! Cream filled ones. Congrats on the release of Soulless!

  26. Who doesn't like ponies?! ^_^

Carrots sticks, hmm? You know, I do like carrots and ranch dip, even though I don't like either. Ha,ha.

  27. The only time I get to read is during lunch or while I'm on the toilet with my two year old pounding on the door. I can sneak in a few minutes here and there in 30 second increments but there's not really any time for snackage while reading.

  28. Cheezits! Don't forget the Cheezits! :)

  29. oh a fellow cheese lover! excellent! :) I am obsessed with cheese. My fav reading snack would have to be popcorn. Popcorn is probably my fav snack in general. So easy to eat and crunchy and satisfying!

  30. I try to eat as healthy as I can, but it's hard for me to enjoy carrots. I mostly hide them in a stir-fry. Dried apples are absolutely delicious! I've recently discovered them and can't get enough. The elbow swipe? I definitely have not mastered that one! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

  31. I love Twizzlers and cheese. Hmmm, I wonder how they would taste together.

  32. Well yeah, cheese is great when reading! Doesn't get fingers messy. I also munch on tic-tacs. Yeah, I'm weird.
