Is 13 Lucky or Unlucky?

What do you think?

It's a question my husband and I toss back and forth. We don't really buy into superstition--well, except that cheese is a cosmic force for happiness. But let's face it, that's truth. =)

And so is the fact that 13 years ago today, I married my best friend. For us 13 just might be the luckiest number in the world: 13 years of crazy adventures. 13 years of companionship. 13 years spent with an amazing creative partner...

He used to make me laugh all the time. On my wish list of traits for a future husband, humor was #2. (Lucky me.) Now that I know all his jokes and the thought processes behind them, I don't laugh out loud, but I chuckle inside and can't help but recall how much I adore him. So, this goes out to my wonderful Matthew:

When upon a starry night
Into heaven’s lens I gaze
A sense of who and what we are
Within my heart doth enflame

And I am carried to the past
One evening’s murky veil
Drawn across celestial views
Removed by love divine—

Then to our eyes the heavens lit
With worlds and truths on high
As we, mere mortals, gazed above
And glimpsed our future, side by side.

In my heart the promise sank
And there it does endure
From that hour to this, and eternity
My hand, dear Matthew, is yours.

We've decided that 13 is our lucky number, and this is going to be the best year of our lives so far, because each one we spend together gets better.

How about for you? Is 13 lucky, or unlucky?

  1. Congratulations! And I seriously cannot believe it was 13 years ago! You are beautiful, and if ever there were soul mates, it is you and Matt. Here's to many many more 13 years in your life. And yes, I do love 13 and think it is the greatest number. Friday the 13th always seems to be the best day ever for me. :)
