Last week, Joylene Nowell Butler shared MATOWAK: WOMAN WHO CRIES along with two truths and one lie. Anyone who guessed the lie correctly was entered to an eBook.
The game:
1. Joylene trained a wild tomcat by attaching a hair-brush to the end of a yard stick so she could brush his coat at a distance of three feet without having her legs torn to shreds.
2. Robert Goulet, singer, actor, best known for The Naked Gun 2 & 1/2, and for being portrayed by Will Ferrell in Saturday Night Live is Joylene’s cousin.
3. Joylene once won 10 bags of jujubes by eating 15 jujubes in one-minute while being blindfolded and having to pick up the candy one at a time with a toothpick.
The lie: #3.
From Joylene: I do love jujubes, but because I live such a boring life, I had to look up a good lie. I found this one in the Guinness Book of Records.

Way to guess everyone! And the winner is:
...DRUM ROLL...
Hilary Melton-Butcher!
Congrats, Hilary!
And now, how about a wonderful book giveaway? (This one is one of the INSTANT prizes you can win in my Wheel of Death giveaway game.)
In this modern day retelling of Rapunzel, Anya has her books, her photography, and her daydreams. She doesn’t think she needs anything else.
She lives in a house on the edge of town with her adopted mother, who goes to extreme measures to keep her daughter safe. Anya doesn’t even go to school, but instead has a private tutor. Anya tries not to acknowledge her loneliness; she puts her efforts into pleasing her mom, and gives her heart to her stories, secretly wishing for a story of her own.
Then one day at the library, the only place she's allowed to go, she takes a picture of a beautiful boy.
Before long she's lying to her mom, and sneaking out late at night to meet Zander. But Zander wants more than a secret romance. If Anya wants to be with the boy of her dreams, she will have to risk her relationship with the only other person she's ever cared about.
Ready to meet the author?
You might find Rachel, kicking back with her kids and eating Colby Jack in crackers. Meet her on her FACEBOOK PAGE.
Rachel gave me two truths and one lie to test your "lie detector" skills. Those who figure out either lie will go into my magic hat for the chance to win an eBook (open internationally):
You have until Tuesday, November 29 at 2 p.m. EDT to guess. Be sure to come back for the answer (and some FUN trivia) on November 16, 8 a.m. EDT.

TRUTH OR LIE
1. I caught a Snorlax in my living room.
2. I almost died when I was four.
3. I saw Patrick Swayze at a horse show.
So sleuths, which is the lie? Have you met Rachel? Love fairy tale retellings? What's got you down lately? And more importantly, how are you going to fight it? Now guess the lie and get out of here--on to the next tour stop!
Have you slapped cheese on your cat today?
ReplyDeleteThat's really Joylene's cousin? Impressive.
I do know Rachel! I'll say number two is the lie.
I don't have a cat, but if I did, my 10 year old would torture it relentlessly. (Incidentally, he's the reason we don't have a cat, because he's allergic.)
DeleteHope you're enjoying your tour! You're certainly getting around.
ReplyDeleteTraining a wild cat doesn't sound boring, Joylene!
I'll say #1 is the lie just because I don't know what a Snorlax is. I'm picturing some sort of cute alien... I sympathise with the almost dying. Asthma nearly finished me off when I was two!
Yes, the tour is going wonderfully, thank you. (And it's almost over. Yippee!)
DeleteLol! It's a Pokemon. I have a 10yo boy. ;)
DeleteIt's been great to join you on your tour. I'm exhausted so you must be. A big ole cheese knees up is definitely in order :) Congrats on everything!
ReplyDeleteLOL. Not exhausted. Actually, this has been the most laid back tour thus far. It's good. Thank you for following along.
DeleteThe cats have me laughing. Looks like the tour is going well! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Hilary!
Don't Fall sounds interesting and I like the cover! I think the lie is #2.
~Jess
It is indeed. Thanks for popping in, Jess!
DeleteThanks, I love how the cover turned out too. :)
Deleteyou take the cheese and i'll take the chocolate! ;)
ReplyDeleteLOL. Or maybe I'll just take both and leave you the crumbs? ;)
DeleteLOL that poor kitty. Although I wouldn't mind having cheese thrown at me, any kind would do.
ReplyDeleteJoylene's life doesn't sound boring at all! I'm so impressed with the tomcat taming.
And congrats to Rachel! I'm going with #1 as the lie.
Hope the tour continues to be a great success, Crystal!
Yes! Toss some cheese at me. I'll take it too. Thank you, Julie.
DeleteThanks, Julie!
DeleteHi Crystal, if you could point me in the direction of chocolate flavoured cheese, I just might join you in your obsession.
ReplyDeleteI caught a Snorlax in my living room. I have no idea what a Snorlax is but I WANT it to be true.
I almost died when I was four. I hope this is the LIE.
I saw Patrick Swayze at a horse show. TRUE.
PS Chocolate is the best food on the planet! :-)
LOL! I need to resurrect my cheese VS chocolate post. Hey, I like both, so you won't hear me complaining.
DeleteHaha. It's a Pokemon. ;)
DeleteWhat a fun post. My cat never liked cheese, which was good for me! Have a great week, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteRight!? If you cat liked cheese, you'd have to actually surrender some. *gasp*
DeleteCheese eating the mouse! That's a good one! ^_^
ReplyDeleteHmm, number 1 for the lie?
I LOVE retellings! I'm writing one right now! I have a whole arsenal of them between my bookshelf and my head. Fairy tales are my second favorite thing in the world. ^_^
It was bound to happen eventually--the mouse-eating cheese.
DeleteI hear you about fairy tales. I've got a ton of them too, and if they ever get written it will be a miracle.
Awesome, Krystal! I love fairy tales. :)
DeleteYay for Rachel! I love her cover. I'll go with number one as the lie.
ReplyDeleteI love it too! It's so beautiful!
DeleteThanks, Kelly and Crystal!
DeleteCats are so funny!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to miss Schief.... I can't spell it!
LOL! I've known her for a few years, but it took me a while too.
DeleteLol! Hardly anyone can spell it. ;)
DeleteWhen life has me down I have to paint. I should be painting everyday ever since the election stuff started. SO many people against people.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes wish I was a different animal.
Wouldn't it be fun to take on a different form for a short time and see through someone else's eyes?
Delete#1 is the lie.
ReplyDeleteI've had a few sick symptoms thrown at me, and I let myself just read for a bit, and sleep more, and my oldest daughter cooked dinners for two nights in a row. Basically, sometimes, it's just good to rest so I can get back up fighting later.
I agree 100%. I've had to rely more and more on my family for things since the baby and then the car accident. I'm just now coming to that point where I'm okay with it.
DeleteI hope the almost dying is the lie.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to Rachel! I always love her stories.
She's pretty awesome.
DeleteThanks, Elizabeth. <3
DeleteWoot Crystal! I'm seeing you everywhere! Yay for Timeless!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Loni. I'm almost done with my takeover of the internet.
DeleteHuge congratulations.
ReplyDeleteOur current cats don't eat cheese. All the more for me.
That sounds like the way to go.
DeleteWell, I have a headache, but I don't have a cat. Or cheese for that matter. Maybe I've just identified two solutions.
ReplyDeleteThere you go! Borrow someone's can and cheese, or watch this one on loop. ;)
DeleteLOVED Don't Fall! Such a fun read :)
ReplyDeleteIt's loaded on my kindle and waiting. Why can't I just freeze time!
DeleteThanks, Meradeth!!
DeleteCongratulations on your book and tour! You are everywhere! That book and series sound amazing! Best wishes!
ReplyDeleteJQ Rose
Thanks a ton!
DeleteOMG, Joylene, maybe you should write a bio! It would probably read like an adventure story:)
ReplyDeleteHey, Crystal.
Having fun...I like that thought.
That's right. Go do it!
DeleteCongrats on the book tour. Now for your reward, as a cheese lover, I give you this cartoon. Cute Animation
ReplyDeleteOh my. That was totally cheesy. LOL.
DeleteWhat a cheesy post. But, coming from Wisconsin, home of the Green Bay Packers and a proud Cheese Head, that's a big compliment.
ReplyDeleteHa-Ha, just teasing.
LOL. If I could stand the cold, that's one place I would be VERY tempted to move.
DeleteHope your book tour is still going well! And as for the lie, hmm....I'm going to guess that she didn't really catch a Snorlax in her living room. That is, unless she had to cheese to wake it up maybe?
ReplyDeleteGoing to have to snag a copy of Don't Fall for myself. Sounds like a really good read.
Maybe she did have the cheese to wake it up. ;)
DeleteI like the cat video :-)
ReplyDeleteIt makes me laugh every time.
DeleteThe truths all sound so valid, but catching a Pokemon in your own living room...hmmm... but he isn't a rare one so maybe it's possible. So I will say #2 is the lie.
ReplyDeleteYou and your logic...
DeleteI love that you're all up on Pokemon. ;)
DeleteI did have a little sharp cheddar today.
ReplyDeleteYum.
DeleteCats always make a down day better. =D
ReplyDeleteThey do, don't they?
DeleteSending you well wishes on your tour! I just bought a copy of Moonless and can't wait to read it. Then I'll be addicted and buy the rest of the series. Have an awesome rest of your week! xoxo
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks, woman! I wish you many hours of happy reading.
DeleteHere's a little nibble of jalapeno jack for you. Sounds like you are having a busy month. I'll go visit you on your tour stops. Good luck with the novel. I've already read Don't Fall, so I won't enter. Loved it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the cheese and wishes! Throwing cheese back at you.
DeleteI wish you all the best with the novel, Crystal! And I love the cats...and cheese, too! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. Cats make life better. :)
DeleteI just read that the secret to a long life lies in eating cheese. That could be a lie in itself, but hey, it's one I'm willing to believe.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes on the book tour!
Sounds right to me. Thanks, Theresa!
DeleteI was going to say #1 was the lie, but then I looked up Snorlax. So... I'll go with #3.
ReplyDeleteWait, how can you be a sub and not know what a Snorlax is? LOL. ;)
DeleteLOL the cat and the slice of cheese...
ReplyDeleteIt's working already, isn't it? Your day has been lifted.
DeleteHmmm…. tough lie this week! I think I'll go with #2, although they are all so plausible!
ReplyDeleteRight? The worst you can do is guess wrong.
DeleteHi Crystal - thanks for letting me know about my amazing win - lucky me: sorry had an 'away' day here yesterday with three things going on - so the computer was off.
ReplyDeleteWonderful - love cats ... just could do with being one at the moment - lying in the sunshine zizzing my day away for now would be good ... then I could wake up and patter over to demand cheese - sounds a great idea. Thanks so much .. love cheese too .. cheers Hilary
Hey, we all need an away day every now and again. I took one too...unintentionally...stuck in bed...
DeleteI'm reminded of a certain Disney cartoon: Everybody wants to be a cat!
When life gets you down, always seek out images of cats!
ReplyDeleteAnd mice-eating cheese? ;) … Actually I think that last one horrifies me a little bit.
LOL. A little disturbing, yes. And you're right. Funny cats make everything better. =)
DeleteHmmm, I'll guess #3 is the lie.
ReplyDeleteWhat's got me down?(Have you not been here during this awful election...?) As for what's gonna bring me back up again, it's going to take a liberal amount of time with some of my giggly grandchildren. That should do the trick. :)
I love that! Nothing is better than spending time with adorable littles!
Deletelove the cat gif.
ReplyDeleteJuneta @ Writer's Gambit
Me too!
DeleteSo Joylene is related to Robert Goulet! Wow. I might have guessed that as the lie. Who knew?!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the intro to Rachel, Crystal. Wishing her well with her book. And wishing you well as you continue your blog tour! :)
Thank you, Karen.
DeleteWell, someone has to be related to Robert, eh?
I honestly can't wait to read your books- I'm a slow reader though and I've got 3 books going right now, but once I free up some I'm picking them up.
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks Tess. I'm pretty slow lately too, but there have been one or two distractions...
DeleteLOL! That gif with the Kitty + Cheese drop is hilarious. I'd have to say that maybe #1 is the lie? So hard to pic. It may even be the more serious of the three options.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm super late to the party here, but congrats on the your recent release!! It's gorgeous! <3
Thank you, Anna! Late is better than never.
DeleteWell, number three sounds the most plausible so I'll say that's the lie. And stop throwing cheese at that poor cat.
ReplyDeleteI'll try. *can't break the time machine's permanent loop...*
DeleteCongratulations, Hilary!!
ReplyDeleteI know! She guessed a toughy, eh?
DeleteMany congrats to Hilary!
ReplyDeleteThat video of the cat is just too funny. It had no idea what to do. Poor thing. My dogs would've been like, "More please!"
Yes! Your dogs must be epic.
DeleteDon't Fall sounds intriguing. You're right--what we all need is a little more cheese. Can we pair it with some white wine?!
ReplyDeleteLOL. I'll take apple cider, but you can have your wine. ;)
DeleteLife has been coming at a lot of people hard lately, sometimes overly so. >_< And I like the idea of fairy tale retellings, though I've only read one or two, mostly in short stories. I have one myself in a file somewhere, though it's less a retelling and more of an out-there reimagining. Eh heh heh.
ReplyDeleteI have a few in the works too. They're too fun, right?
DeleteCongratulations to Hilary!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes to cheese!
That's the correct answer. =)
DeleteMy cat loved to lick potatoe chips. Just plain ones. He loved salt! He actually loved butter too! LOL! Crazy cat! Never tried cheese with him!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Hilary!!
Crazy cat. What would we do without these silly animals to entertain us?
DeleteYay Hillary! Also, I absolutely loved that cheese eating the mouse gif. Small and silly, but fun. haha
ReplyDeleteYes, I would call it...bite-sized. ;)
DeleteCongratulations, Crystal. I hope the blog tour is going well. Wishing you many sales. You definitely deserve tons of cheese.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Hilary.
You're the best, Murees.
DeleteI'm so behind on blogs. Gotta find some time to catch up with all these guest posts!
ReplyDeleteAnd how exciting to see Rachel here! Really love her writing, but shamefully haven't read Don't Fall yet. Even though I'm always terrible at games like these, I'm going to guess #2 is the lie!
I hear you about being behind. *sigh* We do what we can, eh?
Delete#1! #1! And I've never heard of this book before, but I WANT IT! Thanks for introducing Rachel and her book to me! So excited. And also... now I want to write a fairy tale retelling! Christy
ReplyDeleteRachel is pretty awesome. So you'll stray from your angels for fairy tales, eh?
DeleteBesides having a lot of cheese, I need my peeps. All the rest takes care of itself. Happy Thanksgiving. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnna from elements of emaginette
Agreed. Thanksgiving isn't Thanksgiving without a bunch of people to love.
