Math Geeks, Check this Out! Music of Tau

Apparently the new hot "thang" in the math world is Tau. It's supposedly more accurate than Pi when figuring out circular relations. Tau is 2 Pi, which rounds to a pretty number, but that's not what's got my goat. (You know, the one that gives me cheese.) Check out this gem:

I'm a total music nerd. Can you tell? I found this inspiring and beautiful all at the same time.

Apparently they tried the same thing with Pi and it was a total train wreck. Based on the music, I know which one I'd use. This makes me think of randomizations commonly used in math and on computers. They're not actually random. They're based on patterns in natures, because only nature can be truly random, or unique.

Just like each of us--truly unique.

What does your song sound like today?

(Now to figure out how to get my goat back. *scratching head*)

  1. That's pretty cool stuff, and just like pie day, Tau day is nearly upon us 6/28. there should be a celebration.

  2. I knew math and music were very much integrated, which explains why I'm not good at either. Very cool, Pi was such a long time ago in my life, it was a dark period I think...not much cheese around during that time...thus the darkness.

    1. LOL. Hey--as long as the cheese is abundant now, that's all that matters, eh?

  3. That was cool. I have no math or musical ability, but even I got how awesome that was. :)

  4. Perhaps we learn the wrong number in school, then. Who was it that said that the math should be beautiful? That the most elegant solution should be the right one?

    1. It's true. The unfortunate thing is that there's so much bureaucracy in the school system, it'll never happen--plus people are like dinosaurs. Give us two or three generations and maybe someone will push it through, eh?

  5. Uh ... what now?
Good luck finding your goat. ;)

    1. LOL. Yeah, honestly, I'm not that much of a math geek, but I did just finish up a degree and teach Algebra to my oldest, so it struck me. *shrugs*

    1. I can just imagine a school class sitting in front of this video and thinking it's the coolest part of their day. ;) I wasn't such a fan as a kid. Love math now though.

  7. Super cool! I think i would've liked math better as a kid if I'd watched stuff like this.

    1. I know, right? All they have to do is give it a really world application that gets you excited. (Ah, my daily struggle with teaching the littles.)

  8. Very cool! I've never been crazy about math, but this makes me like it—almost. LOL ;)

  9. So, I can't claim to understand most of that, but it sure is pretty. :)

    1. I know, right? You'd have to have taken a few years of music theory (or self studied it) to get most of that. (*pointing to self*)

  11. The math makes my brain bleed out my ears, but I love the music.

    1. I know! My son has been trying to figure it out on the piano since he heard it. He's half way there. :)

  13. THis is so cool!!! I love discovering little factoids... even math, which I don't like in practice but sometimes it's cool how it plays out in the bigger picture. I didn't know that about randomizers, either.
